Welcome to the Stratospheric Sudden Warmings website and thank you for visiting!

This is a dynamic website constructed to help you visualize major, mid-winter, stratospheric sudden warming events, in both the NCEP/NCAR and ERA-40 reanalysis datasets. The website allows the user to view 2D and 3D animations, as well as traditional zonal mean diagnostics, for each sudden warming in the period 1957-2002.

This site was developed to complement recent studies of sudden warmings and their simulation in stratosphere-resolving GCMs. See the "about" section for more details and some references. For a short demo of the site please visit the "help/demo" section. To use this website, click on "view events" above, select from the menu the event and the fields to view, and then click "generate page" to see the images.
