CAREERS IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
BUILDING A DIVERSE WORKFORCE

For undergraduates, graduates, and post-docs who are considering careers in science and engineering, this symposium will consider such questions as:

- How does it differ from the career paths of those who work in industry?

- What is the career path like for scientists and engineers who wish to work in a university?

- Do scientists and engineers have lives outside of work?

- What special challenges do women and other underrepresented groups face as they advance through their institutions?

Working with Faculty and Advisors: Collaboration with Counseling and Psychological Services

Center for Career Education Conference Room

Learn how to manage effective relationships with faculty and advisors.

In this workshop hosted by the Center for Career Education, a staff member from Counseling and Psychological Services will discuss the often complicated relationships that exist between graduate students and their advising faculty. Topics will include:

  • What to do when there is a conflict in goals between you and your advisor
  • How to ask for letters of reference
  • How to respond to feedback, both positive and negative
  • How to remain motivated and encouraged about your work and your field despite a difficult relationship
  • How to cope with concerns about your identity as a student and as a scholar

All graduate students are welcome to attend, though the focus will be on PhD candidates.
